10 Reasons Why Your Weight-Loss Plan Isn't Working

Wanna know why your diet's not working? Do you get frustrated when you step on the scale and it's barely moved an inch since last week? Everyone runs into roadblocks now and then with a diet and exercise plan. How you respond to it can make all the difference when trying to lose weight and get in shape.

When I was in the process of losing 65 pounds and training for my half marathon, there were weeks where I would step on the scale and pull my hair out because I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. It takes patience, perseverance and LOTS of hard work.

But if you feel like you're doing all that and it's still not making a difference, take a step back and see if you're falling prey to one of the 10 deadly weight-loss mistakes.

5 Tips for Eliminating Procrastination...NOW

Procrastination truly is an amazing thing. We put off doing just about anything we remotely don't want to do. Even if our very health depends on it. The New Yorker's James Surowiecki points out in this book review that 70 percent of glaucoma patients procrastinate putting in their eye drops, even though doing so puts them at risk of going blind!

If you're a chronic procrastinator, there's still time to turn things around. Luckily, each day is a new opportunity for making a change and deciding to stop putting off the important things you have to do. Here are a few ways to help you kick start that desire.

A Most Disturbing Statistic

In case you haven't heard, kids in America are getting fatter every year. In just 18 years, the number of kids who are obese has skyrocketed from 6.5 percent to almost 20 percent. Two out of 10 kids these days are not just overweight, but obese.

Obese.

We know that eating bad stuff and not exercising leads to obesity. But we're now starting to understand exactly what kids are eating that is causing such a rapid increase in childhood obesity.

Why Setting Goals is Like Playing Poker

I'm in the middle of watching the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event on ESPN. Like several other shows, it's starting to get backed up on my DVR like dirty dishes in the sink. I really do wish I had enough time in my day to loaf around and watch a bunch of middle-aged white men play cards, but I do have a living to make.

A Little About Me

Who is this guy?

Well, by day I'm a freelance writer, specializing in health and wellness. That's right, I write about this stuff for a living.

By night I'm a husband and a dad to two of the most amazing kids on the planet.

Why did I start this blog? It wasn't but a few months ago that I realized my own life was out of balance. I was in a job I hated, I was fat and lazy, and I wanted to do something about it.

Launch

Every day should be a well day.

Every day should be a day where you feel like your life's well-balanced. Where everything's in harmony.

But how often does that really happen? If you're like most people, you spend most days feeling out of balance, off-kilter and just plain blah...

Well, here's where that all changes.

Here, we're going to talk about the four pillars of wellness that you can focus on to help you achieve balance in your life. They are:

  • Physical wellness - You and your body. Need to lose weight? Quit smoking? Get in shape? If you do, then you're out of balance.
  • Financial wellness - Worrying about how to pay the bills or save for retirement causes stress and even relationship issues. But you don't have to be rich to achieve financial wellness.
  • Emotional wellness - This one deals with how you handle stress, success, love and loss. Staying emotionally centered is always a tough challenge.
  • Spiritual wellness - You don't have to be religious to be spiritual. Feeling like you're part of something bigger can help you achieve amazing things and also keep you grounded.

That's what this blog is about. It's not about trying to be perfect or having the perfect life. You don't need to reach for such lofty aspirations. It's about living life to its fullest based on where you're at NOW. Not tomorrow or yesterday. What you're doing today.

So stay tuned.

And have a well day.
